Akwsesasne Selects Wiles First Overall

Info Courtesy of Calvin Curtis Text Courtesy of ontariolacrosse.com Monday March 1, 2004 TORONTO -- The Ontario Lacrosse Association today announced the results of the 2004 OLA Major Draft held in Brampton at the Sports Centre. Luke Wiles of Orillia, Ontario was selected first overall by the Akwesasne Thunder. Wiles played with the St.Catharines Athletics of the OLA Jr."A" League during the 2003 season. His presence with the Athletics enabled them to capture the 2003 Minto Cup Championship. Luke has completed his Junior career and now competes in the NCAA at the University of Deleware. After the Thunder, Six Nations selected Pat Russell (St.Catharines Athletics) and Brampton picked up Peter Veltman (Orangeville Northmen). In the four spot, the Lakers of Peterborough acquired Chad Culp (Orangeville Northmen), Brooklin chose Garett Kikot (Toronto Beaches), Akwesasne opted for Steve Jennings (Orangeville Northmen), and Brampton picked up Bobby McBride (Toronto Beaches) to close out the first round. The Majors newest franchise, Windsor Warlocks, selected Francis Dostie with their first selection (2nd round, 11th overall). Rounding out the draft, Brooklin selected 9 players, followed by Windsor 8, St.Catharines 4 and Six Nations, Brampton and Peterborough with 3 choices each. In all 35 players were selected.
